Flower of the Day, Superbells

I love Cee’s Flower of the Day challenge. So many of you post such lovely flowers for all of us to enjoy. Hoping it will warm up for good so that they can start growing again.

This particular flower has become a favorite of mine with its many colors and it hardy ability to stand tall when winter comes back through or we have a horrid hot summer. Their correct name is calibrachoa and this color is perfect for this southern girl – Watermelon Punch.

They are probably in the petunia family or petunias are in the calibrachoa family. The leafs and bloom look very similar, they are just miniature in sized to a petunia.

As you enjoy the beauty of the flowers, remember the beauty of kindness and let that kindness radiate from you like the beauty of a flower.

Fun with Flower of the Day

Maybe in two weeks I can really start playing with flowers as hopefully by then the yard project will be complete. fencing in the front so dogs can be off the chains.

But I did get a few hanging baskets and a few things in my planter. Hopefully this cold weekend will not be enough to do damage to what is already planted.

Close up to see the beauty of these blooms

These are Calibrachoa, and a favorite flower as they are hardy and come in several colors. This color is called Tropical Sunrise, and I can see why.

Cee’s prompt for FOTD keeps us looking for that every colorful flower. Flowers make me smile, which reminds me to be kind. So I remind you to try to find ways of showing kindness in these no so easy times. Every ripple counts.

On the Hunt for Joy

Nothing much brings me more joy than getting to play in the dirt, probably left over from childhood.  But Cee’s challenge for week 17 is to Start a Garden. We had some wonderful weather last week – one whole day of it – and I actually started then. But alas, I did not finish before the rains started…and have remained for several days.

IMG_20200429_111229

But we have started, so hopefully by the end of the week we can continue onward. Enclosed are a couple of easy starts – hanging baskets – they at least get the yard starting to look like spring. Took these pictures after hanging them with the bright sun shining. They are Lobelia, a purple and white variety.  Flowers make me smile.

As we enjoy our gardens, remember the smiles they bring us and share those smiles. Try to be the catalyst that makes someone else smile, which brightens everyone’s day.

Tuesday Photo Challenge – Animals

Jansenphoto has a fun Tuesday Photo challenge and I haven’t played in awhile. But today was right up my alley, animals, and I had to play.

As pet owners across this world, we think we have pets for our fun and entertainment but truth be known, we are the pets and they are the owners. Example: Can’t you wait two minutes until the commercial? Answer,  No – Fine. Thank goodness for the pause button.

Mimi, out NOW!

Then  of course when it is time for bed, who really owns it and can I please get in? It’s not your bed!

IMG_20200218_131043
What do you mean it’s not my bed??

And of course, I just HAD to have another dog…so now the sofa is somewhat off limits as well. I get the end edge.

IMG_20200328_133818

Then you have those pets with attitude and the proverbial ability of talking back. I don’t know if your dogs do this trick but two out of the three dogs in this house do.

The grumbling mumbling tone I hear says  “Do you not understand what I am telling you?” And of course, she is teaching Daisy all the tricks.

My daughter lives downstairs in the basement and her dog Max has looks that can kill, or make you roll over laughing.

IMG_20190526_223145
I can’t believe you asked me that question!

But we love our furbabies. From cats to dogs to exotics, they make us smile and bring us joy. Especially now that we are cooped up inside our homes. May you enjoy my furbabies and I look forward to seeing the animals you post.

And as always I remind you to be kind. Right now we all need the help and kindness of each other to survive this mess.

Fun with Fibbing Friday

It has been a while since I have been on this blogusphere as I have been uber busy. So I am playing with as many of you as I can tonight.

https://pensitivity101.wordpress.com/2020/01/31/fibbing-friday-31st-january/

Di writes:  “This week it’s my turn to host the Fibbing Friday challenge as I alternate with PCGuyIV.
https://pcguyiv.wordpress.com/

Below are 10 questions, the answers to which are entirely up to you.
The idea though is to fib a little, a lot, tell whoppers, be inventive, silly or even outrageous, in your response as you evade the truth.   Ready?
Off we go then…………………..”

QUESTIONS:

1. Why did the boy remain on the burning deck?

2. Where will you find a toad in the hole?

3. What do you call a shell-less snail?

4. How many eggs are in a clutch?

5. Why do we say someone is a barrel of laughs?

6. Why are horse races in furlongs and athletics in metres?

7. What are love handles?

8. What was Granny Smith famous for?

9. What is the difference between a toe flip and a toe loop?

10. How many teeth are in a honey comb?

MY RESPONSES:

1. Why did the boy remain on the burning deck? He was roasting marshmallows.

2. Where will you find a toad in the hole? The hole refers to a hollow knot of a tree from a decayed limb and that is where you will find the toad.

3. What do you call a shell-less snail? Homeless

4. How many eggs are in a clutch? Two, one for each wing.

5. Why do we say someone is a barrel of laughs? It’s an old play on words from back in the circus days of clown not having costumes and using barrels instead.

6. Why are horse races in furlongs and athletics in metres? Duh, because horses have fur.

7. What are love handles? This refers to the over sizes handles on the side of dutch ovens

8. What was Granny Smith famous for? Her paintings

9. What is the difference between a toe flip and a toe loop? The direction of the turn

10. How many teeth are in a honey comb? The teeth refers to bees so its the size of the comb of a bee hive.

As you are smiling at the silliness of Fibbing Friday always remember to share your laughter and be kind.

JusJoJan, January 2nd

Linda Hill has created again the fun monthly task of Just Jot January to help us get on track for the new year and to have fun doing it.

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 2nd, 2020, is “a picture you’ve taken in the last week.”

Well, seeing that yesterday was January 1, find enclosed the picture of the meal prepared yesterday in honor of Gladys, my mother. She would have been proud.

Hope your new year meal was a grand as mine and since it was a good start, lets remember this is only day 2 and we have plenty of time in the year to do what is right by being kind in all we do.

Fun Foto Challenge: Opposite Colors

This was fun. I had to go to archives to find some color combinations with my garden this past summer but of course, red and green is still all over my house. Come join in on Cee’s Fun with opposite colors – red/green, yellow/purple & blue orange.

for Red and Green we are using my indoor wreath that I made last year…

Then we jump into last summer flowers remembering the glorious warmth of the season. First is Yellow and Purple….

Then there is Blue and Orange

As you are still remember the joys of Christmas, or the beauty of nature or the fun adventure you had, try to remember the smiles you also created while having fun. Share those smiles because a smile can turn into kindness and kindness shares that love language with others.

A Hedgehog Christmas

IMG_20191128_100046
Oh, there you are!

Where are the kids?” asked Dad.

“What?” questioned mom.  “I thought they were with you.”

“Would I be asking you if they were with me?”

“Oh, good grief!” mom exclaimed exasperated as she walked past dad. “Grandma, have you seen the kids?

“They were  headed to the edge of the forest. They haven”t been gone long.”

Mom looked at dad, “They found the tree,” she stated. And they all headed toward the edge of the forest.

As they approached the tree, a small light glimmered through the branches and giggles of joy could be heard from inside.

May happiness and joy surround you and your loved ones in light throughout this wonderful season of love. And remember to spread that love, joy and kindness where ever you go so that the ripple effect of love spreads through the world.

The Area’s Official Start

Today was the Festival of Trees Parade. This is the kickoff of the Christmas season for Quad Cities(Iowa/Illinois). In the Davenport Civic Center is where the Festival of Trees is sponsored – a fantastic array of fully decorated trees created by businesses for bidding on as a charity event. It has some amazing artistic display for those who are crafty to get their ideas turning for their own trees.

trees1

But the event is kicked off in the morning with the Festival of Trees Parade with huge balloons, bands, and I am told hot chocolate but have yet to find it.

But what this does for me is get me fully in Christmas mode. Today I decorated outside, so the only thing left to do is the mantle above the fireplace in my bedroom. I will get that finished tomorrow.

But for today’s fun post, I will start showing off more of my Christmas. I will start with the “formal” tree that is in the living room. This tree has only white lights and white or silver ornaments, some with a touch of color. I have it on top of the coffee table to keep the puppy’s interest out of reach. It also has the painted ceramic puppies I painted this year beneath it and the other normal other things that are usually under this tree.

For today’s featured piece of my village, I give you the municipal buildings, ie. City Hall, Lawyer office and the police station. I enjoyed doing these as my father and my brother both are in the corporate legal filed.

IMG_20191121_163641

The string of lights running under the little building makes them a little off centered, but I really like the lights shining through the windows. It reminds me of the verse from       II Corinthians 4:6 saying to let the light shine out of the darkness. I think that is what Christmas does for me, a reminder of Jesus light and how he was us to shine our love and kindness the way that he did.
