Fat Little Critters, BOTD

There are several of us in  my neighborhood who feed the birds. And I look down at the sparrows on the ground and they are fat little critter.

IMG_20191031_110657

And it hasn’t been that cold yet for them to grow their down for warmth, or are they getting ready for what they know is coming and we don’t. My yard really is a perfect place for them as they can live in the cedar trees on the edge of the property, zip to the feeders, then zip back into the trees. And they are noisy little critters as well inside those trees.

IMG_20191031_110807

But I enjoy them.  Even when I get fussed at because the feeder is empty. They will peck on the window.

The beauty of nature even in your own back yard is an amazing show how everything works together for the good of creation. Even if we get involved to play with nature by feeding the birds. There is a peace about being part of it and playing with its beauty. Even animals understand it and can feel it.

So come along and play and show the kindness God intended for His creation.

Back on the Air, Monday Windows, Snow

Hi, Hello, Howdy and How in the world are you? It’s been crazy since my last post . Friday of last week…5 days ago…all due to careless incompetence. If you remember I got a new roof, yea for that. But since I have satellite TV and internet the dishes needed to be carefully removed for later re-installation once new roof was on. So what did they do…cut the wires, let them fall to the ground and throw them in the roof trash trailer. Not what they were supposed to do. The company was very apologetic and paid for the replacements and said “good help is hard to find”, really…train your people correctly and then they become good help.

crazy

It is amazing to me the different work ethics across the country as I have now lived in 6 different states but where I am now I believe has the worse. They do great work but fall short of that last 5% to complete the job. Its amazing.

All that being said, lets do a little catching up. Technically I am still in the allowed timeline for Monday Windows as I believe it’s a weekly prompt…so I want to show another beauty from our sanctuary. It shows Jesus’ Baptism.

Jesus Baptism
Again my camera is crooked, sorry.

Monday was also the first snow for the season. It was the best kind of snow – snowed during the night, beautiful to look at, streets were still clear and it was gone by lunch. If it snowed like that all the time, I would never mind the snow.

Plus it was Daisy’s first snow. It was a difficult time of keeping all 4 legs on the ground. Then we nosed a bush and the snow falls off scaring us because it moved…scary stuff. LOL.

IMG_20191029_083108

Today’s snow is a bit different setting records of earliest snow, coldest temps…and flooding. You know its bad when you get a flood warning and a snow warning on the same day. Yes, we are still flooded – not the major flood stage of 22′ like this spring but still the Mississippi is out of its banks and has been most of the year. That is crazy to think about. Special government programs are being setup for these people whose homes have been in water in some form for 8 out of the 10 months this year thus far. I would ask that those of you who are prayers to please remember the people along the Mississippi. I learned from my youth while living in Florida that you don’t want to be too close to the water. It can be a monster of unfounded proportions.

And finally a couple of pictures of today’s snow. It will still be snowing for a couple more hours; current temp at 28 but feels like 17.

The Trunk or Treat at the church has been cancelled more for temp concerns than snow as the snow can be cleared by then but the wind coming this evening will make the temps dangerous for small ones to be out in. The malls had their trick or treat last weekend so the kids got to do some there, as well as other indoor places that celebrated. And some communities just moved it to the weekend.

I feel the “white” season is among us. With higher than normal moisture in the air, we may see more of that stuff than normal. It does warm back up into the 40’s this week so it wont last but still…

So, I leave you with warm thoughts of kindness and love. May you feel the warmth of Christ’s love as it wraps around you and remember to always share the warmth and be Kind.

And the Noise Begins

In betting which is noisier – inside or outside – I think it may bet inside. There is a basset hound(Max) in the basement howling and baying; there is a coon hound(Mimi) upstairs barking and baying in “attack attack” syndrome, the new puppy(Daisy) is whining and pacing because she knows something bad is going on because of all the noise and then there is a group on men pounding on my roof making all kinds of scary noises. It’s new roof time…before the snow next week…on Halloween…2-3 inch possible. Ugh. But my house is getting a new look, a new dress of protection from the outside elements as it were. The Saturday SoCS prompt for today is dress and I think our houses being dressed properly from the elements is just as important as us dressing properly for protection from the elements.

They say they will be done in 8 hours. I hope so as rain is coming b y 3 pm. We will see. In the meantime, noise.

As life brings you noise, remember there is a purpose somewhere behind it and hopefully the good side of it will shine through as God works his miracles. Is a new roof a miracle? It is for me as I knew there were issues but the last storm did enough damage allowing insurance to pay the bulk of a new roof. There is usually a silver lining in every noise of your life. Relax, embrace the good and allow God to do His thing.

And as always, remember to be kind.

The First of Fall

I love the reds of the dogwood, sugar maple and the other trees who really have red leaves before they are invaded by chlorophyll turning them green. The yellows and gold are really rich and nice but I love the reds the best. It was cloudy today but still the reds were  beautiful. It is supposed to be sunny on Saturday so I will take some more pictures then. The reds against a clear cold sky in fall are amazing.

Each season has its own beauty, yes, even winter can be exquisite, and for a southern girl, that is a pretty big statement. So enjoy this season as the northern hemisphere prepares to sleep and remember the beauty of all of God’s creation.

And with beauty comes smiles, and with smiles comes kindness. Always remember the beauty of kindness and share as you can.

Humor on a Day When Needed Most

When you finally bite the bullet, you have to sort those 10 to 15 year old documents because somewhere in that pile, is a legal document you need to have. Ugh. So 3 trash bags of junk mail, old envelopes, old bills plus 6 Walmart plastic full of ground up documents later the sun room is finally fully clean. There were boxes of documents that were boxed up from the moved from Georgia to Alabama in 2002, then moved again to Iowa, never being opened – enough already. Start cleaning.

But I say all that to laugh at something I ran across that was emailed to me back in 2000. And of course with me trying to be a writer, I had to revise and update it. Hope you can enjoy the humor in it with me,  as I needed a good chuckle after all that cleaning, finding the document I needed, then finding out the document had issues of legality…good grief. I always say God has a plan and I believe so in this  but it is making my head spin.

Jesus May Be Watching

A burglar broke into a house one night to see what he could find. He had been watching the comings and goings of those living there in their shiny new cars.  He just knew they would have good stuff inside as well, and they were both currently gone.

As he shined his flashlight around the family room looking for treasures he spotted a nice digital camera on the coffee table. As he placed it in his sack, a disembodied voice rang through the darkened room, “Jesus is watching you!”

He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked off the flash light and stood frozen in the dark waiting for other voices. After a few moments of hearing nothing but the quiet of night, he shook his head and promised himself a much needed vacation after the next big score. He clicked back on the flashlight and continued looking for valuables that were easily carried and of good value. As he reached for the laptop that was sitting on the dining room table, the voice came again, clear as a bell, “Jesus is watching you!”

Totally freaked out, he shined the flash light around the room looking for the source of the voice that he kept hearing. In the far corner near the window his beam came to rest on a large green parrot. Seeing no other source, he went over to the bird hissing under his breath “Was that you old bird? Are you a talking bird?”

“Why yes I am,” said the parrot, “and yes I was just trying to warn you.”

“Warn me about what, huh? The man upstairs gonna zap me or something? What’s your name clever bird?”

“My name is Moses,” said the bird.

“Moses,” laughed the burglar. “What kind of idiot would name a parrot Moses?”

“The same kind of idiot that would name a 165 pound Rottweiler…Jesus.”

When the owners got home they found the front door standing open, Moses was singing his favorite children’s song ‘Jesus is Watching Over You’. The Rottweiler was sitting on the sofa with a ripped shirt in his mouth.

I hope this day has been good for you and if you needed a little humor like I did, I hope this helped. Jesus definitely is watching over us and I hope you can find peace in that and reflect some of His love through a gentle smile, a kind word or a loving hug.

Joy, A Good Start for the Day

This is the day that the Lord had made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

rejoicing

Today’s comforting point in Jesus Calling devotion is regardless of your circumstances, you can still have joy. We get confused thinking joy and happiness are the same thing or come from the same feelings, they are not. Joy comes from inside where God allows it to grow for we find joy in His Presence.

Our day can be dark and gloomy surrounded by pain, loss, illness, depression and fear but if we lean on His everlasting arms we can find Joy as we search for it in hidden places. I encourage you today, knowing he creates each day, that he reminds us to be glad and rejoice in it. Somewhere the warmth of His Presence will shine on you and the gloom will soon turn to brightness. Reach out to Him and he will scoop you up in His arms and carry you to a brighter place.

Remember the kindness He has shown you and show it to others. It may be the one thing that cracks that person’s gloom and allows the light of Joy to shine through.

Let Joy brighten your day and you brighten others.

Sparks and Wrinkles, Macro Monday

We have all seen the sparkle in a babies eyes but puppies have them too, an honest show of happiness and love.

eye spark

But they also have cute wrinkles inside their ears.

dog ear

I know this is kind of stretching the idea about macro but because her cuteness is anything but macro and I had to share.

May I always be as deserving as the the love and devotion I have been shown in all the dogs I own…or may own.

Hoping you Monday was good and that your Tuesday will be even better. Share a kind smile as you go and reflect your light inside.

Small Beauty, Monday Windows

The appreciation of beauty even in small things gives us a chance to enjoy the artist vision, whether it be man or God. I have been doing the windows of my church and today’s focus is on a couple of the single smaller windows whose color are just as vibrant and beautiful. These windows face a courtyard on the side of the church.

IMG_20191014_141439

I do apologize for the crooked pictures as I was making sure I had the camera straight with me instead of the slant to the floor which makes them look crooked. But their beauty still shows through. I will do better with the big windows left to show.

In this fun and wonderful medium of blogosphere, if that is such a word, we are gifted with sharing the pictures and words of beauty that move us. What a wonderful thing to be able to do. I will never be able to go across the “pond” but am so grateful for all the photographers who do or live there and share their work for all of us to enjoy.

As an always reminders to me as to anyone who may read my post, remember the most beautiful things to share is love and kindness. Many of the notes I share are beautiful pictures with gentle words expressing the importance of always being kind. I am a firm believer that the smallest act of kindness can shatter a dark gloomy day so I always close with reminders of kindness. Maybe if we spread enough kindness it will begin to take hold and change the world for the good it can do.

Never forget the power of kindness.

Behind the Pulpit, Lines & Squares

Our church is a wonderful mix of traditional antique windows and more modern architecture.  In the 60s a tornado came through and ripped off the steeple crashing it through the roof behind the pulpit. Since the old world architecture can not be exactly duplicated very well or cost effectively, we opted a different route. We removed the steeple permanently and revised the pulpit area. Fortunately for us, the pipes of the organ, which us behind the screen of the cross,  were not damaged beyond repair. Today this is the look which goes greatly with out style of worship combining traditional with a more contemporary sound.

church

It is not really what our churches look like but how they make us feel and how we can feel His presence. Looks are only secondary to how we feel.

As you go through your day, remember the importance of kindness and how it makes you feel and spread that feeling to others, who then will spread it and so on. Its a ripple effect.

Yep, It’s Time

I am fully aware that is just mid-October but if you have lots to prepare for and many things that needs to get made you have to prepare and get ready ahead of time so when it time, you are ready. What in the world am I talking about…

Decorating for Christmas

This year I am able to decorate some outside, so new toys. Yea! I had house repairs made which included fixing my outside energy source so, let’s let our light shine. Last year I was not able to walk much due to surgery on my feet, and the sunroom remained closed off all winter long because the fireplace had issues. The fireplace got fixed this summer, the junk in the room was dealt with and now to reorganize that room which will take time. But cute stuff goes early, so we buy early. Added more pieces to my village, added a table tree to my woodland theme for the bathroom…cant wait to get started organizing everything so that by the middle of November the trees (3 large, 2 small) can start going up. Takes time to do all that but it is my favorite time of year to decorate the house.

As we think about the coming light season, remember the inner light Christ has given you and to let it shine reflecting His love for everyone. You don’t need a season for that; that’s and everyday thing. Have a great week.
