How amazing to get close to nature where it is appreciated by others. Tonight, just before it is time to take flight, we have the lightning bug resting before taking off. Looks like he ate as well. ☺️
Remember in all that we do, we can always be kind. It’s a choice, so choose it often.
Today was a day of much needed rain, a good slow soaker. So not much activity at the feeder. But yesterday…
But there was another visitor to the sugar water feeder…
I could not figure out why he chose to be there, so I did a little research on what mantis eat. This must be the season they are really coming out or maybe they are just extra hungry. Below is a big one that visited the church.
My research tells me they eat all kinds of insects, grubs and even the occasional small bird. Small bird…a hummer is a small bird. Well maybe Big George, but surely not Littler George. Still I am not taking chances.
Research said they eat things bigger than themselves….okay, not having that. So I went outside and shooed him off. I didn’t hurt him, just made him leave that spot. I enjoy my hummers way more than any bug.
I close with a reminder to always being kind. Even a smile can take the hardness out of someone’s day.
I have no clue what this critter is. He is a good three inches long. His coloration of army colors is very interesting and his wings as you can see are translucent. The end of his body is weird, like he has a tail. If anyone knows, give me a shout.
In refilling the bird feeder at the church this morning, I took several pictures for FOTD but latched onto the one below for Irene’sSunshine’s Monday Macro. I call it “Flower and Friend”.
I think the flower is a type of Coreopsis but not sure about his friend, maybe some type of stick bug?
Friendship is how we survive this world, so remember to be a friend and be kind….but gentle….
Sorry, in kind of a silly mood today…actually got some sleep last night. Have a great week.
I guess I ought to be grateful that my germanium is the only thing being eaten by these wretched creatures but dude, go away, this is July and even it is almost over.
Guess he is trying to make himself look big with hairy legs raised for battle which I am sure are used for holding on. So I thought it odd that a lily has hairs way down toward the center of its throat. Wonder what they are used for.
And the spots are actually raised. So much amazement in close photography of things you never saw or thought of before.
As you enjoy and smile on the beauty you see, share that smile and the kindness it reflects to all you come close to. It may just brighten a dark day they are having.
