Character in a Face

We have all heard the saying of “judging a book by its cover”, and how sometimes a person with strong looking character doesn’t live up to that character as seemingly thought because of how others perceive those looks, which in itself is a stupid way to judge anything. Yet we still do it.

judging

But does the same judging premise work for other things like animals. Well, if we are talking about wild animals, even the smaller ones need to be given plenty of room as they understand the thought process behind survival of the fittest so regardless of their character looking cute and cuddly…they are still a wild animal and you are a lunchbox.

But domesticated animals are different, depending on their caretaker of course,  and I won’t get on that soapbox for now. For now we are referring to visual character and do they really have it. I think we humans are the one’s who place that character on anything we see and judge it accordingly. We are a creation that tends to judge and give opinions on people and animals. When you go to the shelters, which I tend to stay away from as I will bring them all home, people will judge the validity of a family pet on how it looks, especially a puppy, without any consideration of it one day being a full grown dog. Then they don’t like how the animal behaves due to their own poor training practices or the fact that “That’s a cool breed, lets get one of those” doesn’t really work for you now that it weighs 85 lbs.

The reason I bring this up is because of “the church rescue”. Yesterday, a neighbor of the church brought over a small dog he thought originally had been hit right in front of the church and just left to die. All of us at the church are animal people so once we checked him out and realized he was not hurt, probably just an older fellow we got in touch with all rescue type people to see if anyone had lost their pet and such. It just so happened that the monthly Vista luncheon was going on at the same time. Vista is a program we have for people 50+ that has a monthly program combined with lunch. A good time for combining information of interest and fellowship. One of the ladies well into her 80s, came to the office to ask a question and fell in love with this dog. She had lost her long time family pet about a year prior, and due to her age, really did not want to start out with a puppy. Now this dog probably weight about 6 pounds soaking wet, was dirty with long matted, flea bitten and could not walk properly due to an issue with his hip, not at all a good visual judge of character. You could tell he had been someones pet at one time as he understood commands and kindness. So now this bedraggled creature went to a new home. She took him today to the vet and had him checked out, got him bathed, haircut and yes…a bow in his hair, its what some little ole ladies do. Then she brought him by the church for us to see the transformation. He has a caring new home and she has someone to take care of and talk to, a win-win in my book. We need to remember that older folks still need to be needed and loved. This was a good lesson for some of the younger folks.

When we look more at the heart than at the visual, we begin to see the real character. That is what Jesus does. We are all of utmost value to him regardless of how we look. He knows our hearts and he wants everyone in his hands where he can take care of us.

But there is a little more to this post on “character in a face”. There are some dogs that just ooze character, again, to some people.  I am working on a birthday present for my daughter and have compiled some precious photos that I believe have character as his heart is very close to the preciousness of these pictures. So enjoy them or if not a dog lover feel free to move on to the next post.

Life of Maximus, the basset hound. I have posted several of his adult pictures in the past as he makes me laugh.

Baby pictures are always too cute, regardless of type of creature. Just go to the zoo and see all the babies in the spring.

Max’s personality coming through. He is a very sad creature as most bassets are.

Maximus, sitting  as on a throne of power after the royal he was so named.

But in reality, he just loves his mommy and is so sad when she isn’t home so we stare at the door until she arrives.

I hope I made you smile today and encouraged you for a few minutes to forget possible life situations you may be going through. Remember God is never far from us and all we have to do is lift an hand to him for his help.

BOTD, Bully of the Day?

Even the animal kingdom lost its “lovin feelin” when Eden crashed. They too show greed and fight for food.

House Finches

The reddish head and chest are the males and the females are dull brown. What’s wrong with that idea…anyway the female on the upper perch was down on the lower perch but he ran her off. So she is patiently waiting until he leaves so that she can eat. The hanging thistle sack is a good 10 feet further back but it looks like she could eat those. The goldfinches really enjoy those.

The males are also messier knocking seeds to the ground…

But I still enjoy them. I switched to the safflower seeds to discourage grackles and squirrels.  Seems to be working but I do have one sunflower seed cake for the cardinals and Mimi let’s me know when squirrels are after that one.

Hope all have a remaining blessed day.  Remember to be kind to all of creation.

The Beauty of The Tree

Piercing Through the Trees
Summer Beauty

The Beauty of the Tree

I can hear it coming, the deep thundering in the distant

I dare not move for fear of losing this peace in a instant

The sun seeps through the canopy above

A quiet calling of a dove

I ponder the quiet around me

Embracing the beauty I see

I raise my heart to heaven in hopes that God will hear

With shadows of forest surrounding, a reminder of Eden so dear

Forgive us our dear Father for your beauty we do not see

Help us always to remember the beauty of the tree.

Today, Irene of Heavens Sunshine posted this beautiful picture trees and it reminded me of the Garden of Eden and how magnificent it must have been. An untouched creation of God. It gives me hope of the beauty of heaven.

Check out other picture from Irene’s blog as well as all the many photographers in this blogging world that continually remind us of the beauty of this world.

And as always remember to be kind in all you do to help regain some of the beauty of all of creation.

Petunias, FOTD

Cee’s fun challenge for Flower of the Day has nee especially fun for me. Don’t know if it is because my flowers this year have been so lovely or I have been more aware of their beauty – probably some of both.

My petunias have been exceptionally full in one of my hanging baskets and thought I would share.

Purple is always a good color

The short lived life of a Petunia blossom reminds me how fast life zooms past us. We must grow and bloom where God has placed us and share out God given beauty and love with all we come in contact with. And always be kind.

A Photo A Week: Still Life

I remember some art classes as a kid how boring I thought still life was without realizing the beauty and creativeness of it. As Nancy Merrill explains – A still life is a painting or photograph that features inanimate objects, typically bowls of fruit and bottles wine. So this weeks challenge is still life and I went with what I know – Color. So as I prepare for tonight’s Party in the Park, I clean and sterilize my tools and equipment for another night of fun.

Fun Night Out

Sometimes you need a real distraction of fun to help rejuvenate your mindset. Last night was on of those. I was asked to come participate and face paint in the annual family night out at a small community south of where I live. It just so happened that the event was the same night that the local fire and rescue did their training so they combined the two to the children’s utter delight. And I even got caught in the spray accidentally(??) hmmm?? But it was a lot of fun. It was setup on a playground with a large pavilion where mountains of food were brought out by everyone. They played kickball on the ball field with other games, chalk drawings on the tennis court, me face painting and of course the highlight was the fire & rescue guys.

The camaraderie of small town life was very evident and it reminded me of the love we should always share with our fellow man. Everyone was kind, nurturing of all the little ones there. I had to laugh at one dad as he handled his daughter’s teasing whine. After the water “fight” some of the parents had remembered to bring towels and one dad wrapped his shivering 5 year old daughter in a towel as she stood in my line for face painting. Her older sister told  him “I am cold too”. He didn’t miss a beat and remarked “Yea, and your 11 and know where they are.” Awesome. I just laughed at him. The loving banter in families is such a gift that does not get used as much as it should. It shows caring and nurturing while also showing training of responsibility and self sufficiency.

As this country, even this entire world, is in a defined battle of good versus evil, this family closeness needs to be strong. There needs to be the strong family bond around a central theme – love. May we all pray for that in all of our families. Enjoy the photos I have enclosed and remember to always be kind. There are over 40 versus in the bible that speak of God showing the importance of kindness and how kindness ripples our through the world spreading goodness as it goes.

I tag in with Granny Shot it and her new challenge of Water Water Everywhere. That certainly was the issue last night.

Vinca, Resilient Little Flower, FOTD

What a weather roller coaster this area has ridden this year.  Record snow fall, record cold, 90+ day flood, and now record heat and back to drought after all that water. And still nature shows her beauty. This is my first year planting Vinca’s but they are so hearty I will make sure to plant them next year.

I have enclosed all three colors – don’t want any flower’s feeling hurt at not being included – yes they have feeling too. Just ask the shrimp test, another post for another day.

Let’s enjoy the beauty of Vincas.

Cee’s fun prompt that allows us to share our flower pictures is Flower of the Day. Come join in and see the beauty all around. And as always, remember to be kind.

How Do You Value Your Worth?

Everyone who reads my posts knows I always try to encourage and show kindness and try to remind others to do the same.  The message below is a strong message of encouragement and hope to prove your worth to God.

I believe those of us in the Christian faith, even though we may go to different churches and may have different ideas of how to worship, we understand  that we all serve and worship the same God, the same Jesus Christ. The message below is a wonderful message wrapped around the story of the lost coin and how God values every single lost coin, every single lost person. It was he who created us and he does not want to lose a single coin to the father of lies.

If you have the time and interest take a listen and realize just how valuable you are in God’s eyes. If you have limited time, fast forward to about 10:30 on the timer and listen to the last 9 minutes. I think it will do a lot of good to those of us who struggle with self worth due to the negative world around us.

Always remember the value you have in God’s eyes, and remember the value of those around you in God’s eye and try to reflect his love and kindness.

Today’s Flower of the Day, FOTD

This summer has been exceptional for lilies. Those in my yard are just about gone but they are still beautiful around the church so I am posting one of the normal color I knew growing up.

Day Lily

Cee has given us such a fun prompt for summer with FOTD. What ever are we going to do when it snows, oh yea, the bottom have of the globe gets to play.  Enjoy the flowers as you have them, then go to the inside botanical gardens when it gets cold so you can still smile and enjoy their beauty.

Flowers for me inspire hope. Hope inspires encouragement. Encouragement inspires kindness. Kindness in spires Joy. Joy = beauty in flowers. A never ending cycle.

May we all share hope, encouragement, kindness and joy in all that we do. Spread it thick like jelly on toast so that all can taste it.

More Fun with Macro, SMM-3

In refilling the bird feeder at the church this morning, I took several pictures for FOTD but latched onto the one below for Irene’s Sunshine’s Monday Macro. I call it “Flower and Friend”.

Flower and friend

I think the flower is a type of Coreopsis but not sure about his friend, maybe some type of stick bug?

Friendship is how we survive this world, so remember to be a friend and be kind….but gentle….
