BEAUTY IN COLD

IMG_20190208_154537

We huddle close to fight the fierce and raging wind

Hoping to not face it as we round the next bend.

As we reach the building edge and peek around to see

We gets blasted in the face as the wind howls “look at me”.

Winter’s demanding  blast this year, a force to reckon with

As snow joins low temps to break some record making myths.

But misery moves aside  to reflect the beauty God can make

As we look around at mounds of white and tree crystals we pray don’t break.

We’d rather have warm temperatures with flowers all around

But will accept this fate for now until comforting times are found.

When I got to the church this morning the trees were really beautiful but the parking lot was still to icy for much walking about for pictures. But as I was leaving this afternoon, the ice was still hanging in the trees and looked like crystal chandeliers so I was able to get a few pictures. Hope you enjoy them and are safe and warm.

I also remind you of indisputable power of kindness.  When we are all under stress due to this oppressive cold, remember the spark of kindness could warm a hurtful soul.

Dirty, Just Jot January

Linda G Hill with the final guest prompt by Jim has challenged us with “dirty”. Right now I am more consumed with snow and cold than dirt but I have heard cold being called “stinking cold”. Stinking usually refers to something really smelly dirty. So I am going with the cold being dirty. At least it is leaving a mess at my front door.

I just came in from getting the mail and these new pictures and the current temp is 3 degrees and steadily falling with the onslaught of this polar vortex. Temps to drop to an estimated -22 with a wind chill of -51. For all of you also in this dirty stinking cold, stay inside as much as possible. I am praying we don’t get further damage from this cold air mass. Sunday we will be basking in  heat at 44 degrees. That’s 60 degrees warmer so it will feel great.

I am adding in a few pictures of the snow. While I know it is silly to post snow pictures but being from south Georgia, this is not a normal scene for me. So chuckle with me and stay warm.

Knee high

While the angle is not good, the snow is knee high and drifted higher in some areas.

The mound in  the center of the yard is the Christmas decorations and a small live Christmas tree. The decorations may have to wait until spring to get remove.

I hope these evergreens are resilient enough to straighten back up with spring.

Even though we are stinking dirty cold, we can always be crystal clean kind. Sometimes when things are under stress, kindness is more important, more needed and much loved on the receiving end.  So remember to be kind.

Brightness Of Red In The Snow

Even though it is cold and snowing…again, there is amazing beauty in nature as the birds with red show up at the feeder. The red is really bright.

Debbie Smyth challenged us again with Six Word Saturday, so since it is snowing again I thought it appropriate to share the snow.

And in closing I always remind anyone reading to be kind. It can be the hardest and most rewarding thing you can do.

Beautiful Destruction of Winter

img_20190123_153004
Ice under the snow.

The storm moves in slow, fooling first as rain

But with temps way too cold, it brings only pain.

Before moving to snow and feeling the ice’s weight

The limb fell even lower sealing the tree’s fate.

Will further storms break it as it heads to the ground

Or will nature spare it,  this fate so profound

In hopes of a spring with bright glistening fun

Bring rebirth to a tree when it reaches for the sun.

Let us be the bright glistening sun for those who may feel trapped in a cold winter storm.

Another one? Really! #1LinerWed, #JusJOJan

We already had two systems come through totaling 13 inches and now another comes through dropping another 6 1/2 inches of snow! Enough already!

Even with the cold white stuff, kindness still prevails. Due to my inability to be fully stable on both feet, my dear neighbors out of their kindness cleared my sidewalks. So I remind you of the truly valuable gift of kindness.

Again Linda’s One Liner Wednesday combined with Just Jot January has asked us to come play along so I ask you as well to come join in on the party.

Art in the Cold

In everything God creates, if we look hard enough we will still see beauty. As I went to take out the trash this afternoon, I noticed how the snow clung to my new rock wall. I thought it interesting how it clung to some areas and yet totally missed others creating another interesting God type artwork.

I am big on patterns and coming from the quality control world sometimes those patterns can let you know if something is off or not. Now that I am retired, I just like to see what pattern emerge when I look at things. I have teased Irene of Heaven’s Sunshine on her post of Dark Star telling her where my quirky visual eye saw Mary and baby Jesus in her flower of the day.

And then today I told CitySonnet on her wonderful picture of a Pansy when I could see someone in yellow shirt with white sleeves and blue bell bottoms praising the heavens.

Its a fun way to share our individual quirky art side. Some of us more quirky than others but that is why art is so subjective. Its in the eye of the artist. Even with writing. My book is now fully complete and edited so I am trying to figure out what to do about publishing it – traditional or self publish. What are the pros and cons of each. Who is good, who can you trust. It a lot to process for a newby. Plus the content is really out there unless you are an avid dog lover who truly believes all dogs do go to heaven. LOL. But we will see. I am up for any advice anyone wants to share. Until then I will continue to share my quirkiness, fun side and kindness here in the blogusphere world.

As you share with each other here or even as you go about your day, I remind you to always be kind. Kindness is the light of Christ shining through us to help lighten the darkness of someone’s day.

He flew over…JusJoJan #11

bird1

The bird flew over it and what did he see

But craziness below of a torn up Christmas tree

The lights and ornaments were slung everywhere

While the flu engulfed me and I rested in a chair

He circled the room getting caught in the drapes

Then he raced up the flue in  hopes to escape.

The silliness of quick poetry on a tired Friday night. Thanks to Linda G Hill and M for the fun challenge of “flew/flu/flue.” Come join us for Just Jot January, see the zaniness that we can come up with and say Hi.

We are all birds of one kind of feather or another but we all want love and kindness, so remember to always be kind. And if you live in  the midwest like me…its coming y’all…

November Thankful Challenge, Week 4

I did not get this posted yesterday so I am a day late for week 4. The month of November is where we focus on things we are thankful for so I am posting this weekly during the month to share all that I am thankful for. Some overlap a bit but thankfulness has a way of doing that because life overlaps in many ways as it should. If you didn’t see the others and would like to, they are listed here; week 1, week 2, week 3.

  • Nov 19 – I am thankful the Lord has given me yet another day. Hopefully I use each day as the gift it is.

joy

  • Nov 20 – I am thankful that although the pain in my foot is minor as I recover from surgery, at least I still have a foot that is healing nicely. Now both are done.

IMG_20181114_115640

  • Nov 21 – I am so thankful for God’s light that shines on all of us and for the many artist that use their talents to remind us and lift us when we need that lift.
  • Nov 22 – I am thankful for what this day remind us of and for the love of family and friends that surrounds at this time. Also for the many memories of this day, the “Wow” moments and the “Oh, Really” moments.
  • Nov 23 – I am so very thankful that I do not have the shopping bug so that I do not have to get out in the madness of Black Friday.

crazy

  • Nov 24 – I am thankful for the fun I have with college football and super excited that my team won and is  headed to the conference championship, Go Dawgs!

uga mascot 1

  • Nov 25 – I am thankful for all the blessing I have received and the ability to enjoy sitting on the couch watching the birds eat as much as they can before the snow gets too thick on the feeders. Then of course it did.
  • Nov 26 – I am so thankful that I have a daughter that is taking care of me as I heal and that she took care of all the snow removal since I am still on the knee walker from surgery. Don’t think it would do well in 13″ of snow.

And remember as always, especially when times, weather and situations get trying, be kind. It can be the greatest gift you could give.
